Our Approach

Solar Ontario is technology independent, and that’s important in Canada’s solar energy marketplace. Where most solar energy companies represent a single product line, Solar Ontario takes an engineering approach to solar thermal systems, fitting the most appropriate technology and product to the client’s application, with an eye for the client’s bottom line. We will only recommend proven, tested technologies backed by independent third party testing and by years of demonstrated performance in the field. This combination of rigorous installation standards with proven technology have made Solar Ontario a trusted resource for public sector energy managers and hundreds of homeowners.

Solar Ontario also takes pride in improving standards across the solar industry. Solar Ontario’s principal, Andrew McKegney CET, a past Chairman of the CSA’s Solar Thermal Collector Standards Committee, participates in three other CSA standard's committees, and has served on the Boards of CANSIA, the Canadian Solar Industries Association, and the Solar Energy Society of Canada. Mr. McKegney is a CANSIA certified solar thermal installer, and trains other installers on behalf of CANSIA. He lectures on solar regularly at colleges, at the Kortright Centre and other public forums.

Solar Ontario’s work contributes significantly to improving the global and local environment. Since its founding in 2002, Solar Ontario has installed over 10,000 solar collectors, which have the potential to save our clients over $450,000 (in natural gas) every year, while avoiding the release of over 28,147 tonnes of carbon dioxide a year into the atmosphere. It’s a record of which we’re justifiably proud.
