Solar Ontario is owned and operated by Andrew McKegney, CET.

Andrew “Andy” McKegney began his career in the solar thermal industry in 1977 when, while still in Sheridan College, where he developed and built a series of solar collectors which were later used to heat one of the college's buildings. Since that time he has been employed for more than 30 years, in the Canadian solar industry - initially for two of Canada's largest solar equipment manufacturers; Solartherm Inc. and Solartech Ltd. as a solar design technologist, and subsequently - by Solar Evaluation Services Inc. as its general manager. Mr. McKegney has designed and developed new solar collectors, domestic hot water packages and large industrial water heating systems. He has personally designed and installed more than 450 solar heating systems. Mr. McKegney started
Solar Ontario in 2002 in order to expand with the renewed public interest in solar energy.

Mr. McKegney is a strong believer in the practice of good solar design and ethical behavior by the solar industry. To this end he has participated on the board of The Solar Energy Society of Canada Inc (SESCI) and is the past chairman of the solar thermal division of the Canadian Solar Industries Association (CanSIA). He was a member of STAC, the Solar Thermal Advisory Committee, which consulted and advised NRCan (National Resources Canada) on developments in solar thermal technology. He has volunteered his time and experience towards the development and creation of 4 CSA standards for solar thermal products - he  is a past chairman of CSA-F378, the Solar Collector Standards Committee. Mr. McKegney was commissioned to re-write CanSIA's Solar Domestic Hot Water Installation Manual, and also assist in the development of a national training program for the certification of solar water heating system installers and is a CanSIA certified installer & trainer himself. He regularly lectures and speaks to groups about solar energy across Ontario.
